Cannabinoid receptors are involved in a series of processes inside the body including regulation of pain sensation, inflammation, mood and stress.  These receptors can be activated by the endocannabinoid system (produced by the body), as well as plant cannabinoids – like those found in hemp or cannabis.

Receptors are grouped into two main categories – CB1 and CB2.  CB1 acts mostly on the central nervous system, while CB2 receptors are part of the immune system.  These receptors play a role in CNS recovery and plasticity, as well as response to environmental insults (hello, training!).  Additional actions of these receptors include modulation of inflammation, immune response and perception of pain.
